Interview: Nicollette Sullivan

Where are you from?
I’m from Los Angeles California, I grew up primarily in the Venice Beach area of Los Angeles.

What is your earliest memory of music?
My earliest memory of music is singing along with my parents in the car to the radio.

When did you start being an artist?
I have always considered myself to have an artistic soul. I started to create in elementary school writing little songs on my down time. That gradually developed into writing poetry, and doing a lot of journaling which have turned into lyric content for my songs.

How would you describe your style?
My style is eclectic. I like things that harken back to another time. I love nostalgia. I experiment a lot, though, and enjoy participating in trends as well as curating my own style. So I guess it’s a blend of classic old school jazz with newer pop, and Neo soul elements.

Are there any particular themes or messages that you often explore in your music?
Love is definitely a reoccurring theme in my music. I guess I am a hopeless romantic.

What is the meaning behind your stage name?
There is no deep meaning to it. It’s just what I like to be called. I think I feel the name “ Nicollette” fits my visual aesthetic and musical sound better than my regular name of Nicole/Nikki.

What is the story behind your most famous song?

It’s a personal story with embellishments and dramatization.

What is the hardest thing about being an artist?
Being vulnerable. Being an entertainer is all about putting yourself out there. It takes a lot of bravery and
determination. And a bit of a thick skin, which I am slowly but sure developing.

What’s the best thing about being an artist?
I love turning my emotions into art. It’s cathartic.

What are your goals for your music career?
I hope to continue growing, making more music, and hopefully be able make a living off of doing something I love.

What do you like to do in your free time (outside of music)? I enjoy spending time with my loved ones and friends. I also love going on picnics and watching movies. I like thrift shopping, I love good wholesome fun. What girl doesn’t?

Do you get involved with charities or causes that are important to you?
I think it’s important to give back and try to be of service where and when I can. Part of giving is listening to others, helping others when they need an ear or advice.

What is something that people would be surprised to know about you?
I am very shy and usually pretty reserved.

What does a typical day look like for you?
I wake up around 6am usually I tend to go to sleep early. Put some music on. Get into the shower and get ready, focus on whatever I need to do that day. Before I go to sleep I like to take a bath and relax and watch a movie, listen to a podcast, and go on my phone. I usually listen to podcasts when I sleep or guided meditations.

Do you have any upcoming projects we can be excited about?

I will be releasing my EP in August, we will also being doing some new music videos, and doing live shows in the Los Angeles area. Also I am working on a ton of new music.

What are some of the standout tracks on your latest project?

Some stand out track from my upcoming EP I think would be “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore” and “Tattered Wings”. I think they are great songs. And the lyrics are very personal to me.

What are your favorite topics to write about?
Love in all of it’s ups and downs.

How do you deal with creative block or artist block?

I like to bounce ideas off of others. I know so many creative people, musicians and writers…… it’s so helpful to get their feed back, when I am stuck on a line or concept.

What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?

To focus on today and tomorrow will take care of itself.

What was the best show or tour you have ever been on?

I liked my first show. So many of my friends and family showed up and it meant so much to me to have them all there to support me.

What’s been your favorite moment of your career so far? Where can people find your music online?

My favorite moment of my career so far listening back to all the finished songs after they are released and watching the videos we have made. It’s so cool to see all your work come to fruition. You can find all my socials on My website nicollettesullivan.com
