Will Young Releases Anthemic Pop Single ‘Light It Up’ on August 9

The life-affirming song is a call to celebrate your individuality and to never let the world diminish your true self. Over rollicking keys and lively brass, Will sings: “Light it up, and let them know it. You’re too loud to be quiet, too bright now to stop glowing… Don’t waste who you are”.

Will Young said: “‘Light It Up’ is the most positive upbeat and fun song I’ve ever done. I can’t wait for people to be joyously uplifted by it and let all their worries float away.”

With exuberant melodies and a sumptuous, soulful 70s pop production; ‘Light It Up’ instantly feels like a classic record that slots between Elton John and some of Will’s own beloved numbers such as ‘Switch It Up’ and ‘Joy’.

‘Light It Up’ is written and produced by renowned Scandinavian pop hitmakers PhD (Kylie, Little Mix), with rising British singer-songwriter Tom King, who has been tipped by CLASH and HUNGER Magazine.

The new single follows Will’s 80s-inspired single ‘Falling Deep’, which was hailed as BBC Radio 2’s Record of The Week, and the wistful, electronic pop track ‘Midnight’. They feature on the multi-award-winning British pop star and actor’s forthcoming ninth studio album “Light It Up” – out on 9 August via BMG.

It is Will’s first album of originals in five years, and sees the acclaimed singer-songwriter team up with new collaborators, PhD, and reunite with Andy Cato of Groove Armada and Jim and Mima Elliot, who worked with Will on his defining album “Echoes”.
